A travel budget app that gives you one number

Set a budget for the whole trip or per day, and the Today screen answers the question you actually have: how much can I still spend today? Spend more one day and the difference is spread across the days left, so tomorrow is a little tighter. No red alarms, no scolding.

Flights and anything you paid before leaving stay out of the daily number but still count toward the trip. A hotel paid up front can be spread over the nights it covers. Tap the number and Roampurse explains it in plain sentences: what’s left, for how many days, and why.

A trip expense tracker you can use while you pay

Tap + and the keypad is already open. Type the amount, tap Save, done. Category, note, place and payment method are all optional, and you can fill them in later. The keypad adds up (120 + 45 + 30), any past date is one tap away, and cash, cards and accounts are kept apart, with a count of the cash you should have on you.

• Receipts: scan one with the camera, pick photos or attach a PDF of several pages. The total and the date are read on your iPhone and offered for you to confirm; nothing is saved on its own.
• Repeating expenses like rent or a phone plan show up on their day and ask you to confirm the amount.
• Money in, mileage and work expenses: log income, distance times your own rate, and mark what your company should pay back.
• Add from anywhere: Apple Watch, a widget, Control Center, the Action button or Siri (“Add an expense in Roampurse”).

An offline currency converter for travel

Every foreign amount shows its conversion right next to it, with the rate, the source and the date, like “฿180 ≈ US$5.37 · 1 US$ = 33.51 ฿ · ECB · 29 Sep”. Rates are stored inside the app and refresh at most once a day when you’re online, so the converter and every total keep working in airplane mode.

The reference rates come from the European Central Bank and the National Bank of Poland. With the official fixed pegs they cover 153 of the 155 currencies in circulation; for the other two (KPW and VED) you enter the rate you got.

Each expense keeps the rate of its own day, so a new rate tomorrow doesn’t move what you already added. Got a different rate at the exchange booth or the ATM? Use yours, for one expense or the whole trip. Log a cash exchange with “I changed money” and Roampurse works out your real rate, fee included, and uses it for what you pay in that cash.

In Cuba, Sudan and Iran the street rate can be far from the official one. The first time you pick one of those currencies, Roampurse says so and asks for the rate you were actually given. More about the rates.

Split travel expenses without the math

Add your partner or your group, even people who don’t have the app. Say who paid and for whom: equally, by shares, by exact amounts or by percent. Roampurse keeps everyone’s balance in one currency, conversion included, and shows how to settle up in as few payments as possible.

Want everyone adding expenses? Share the trip through iCloud. Only the person who shares it needs Pro; the people they invite join and add expenses for free, and there’s no daily limit on expenses.

Worked out a good budget for five days in Lisbon? Send it as a link. The link carries only the currency, the number of days and the amount per category: no names, no dates, no receipts. Whoever opens it sees the budget laid out and can start their own trip from it. See an example.

Pricing

Pro adds splitting and sharing with your group (the people you invite don’t pay), receipts and PDF reports, the full insights and reimbursement reports, several trips at the same time, widgets, Apple Watch, Siri and the Dynamic Island, and importing from other apps. When Pro ends, nothing gets locked: everything you added stays yours to see, edit and export.

Questions

Does Roampurse work without internet?

Yes. Adding expenses, converting, budgets, splitting, charts and exports all work offline. Only downloading new rates, iCloud and App Store purchases need a connection, and the app always shows the date of the rate it used.

Do I need an account?

No. There’s nothing to sign up for. Your trips are on your iPhone and, if iCloud is on, in your private iCloud.

Which exchange rates does it use?

Reference rates from the European Central Bank and the National Bank of Poland, and any rate you enter yourself. Here’s how they work.

Do my friends have to buy it to split costs?

No. Only the person who shares the trip needs Pro. The people they invite join for free, and people without the app can stay on the trip as names.
